I'm in Mont. Co. and a stretch of road next to the Seminary and part of Rock Creek got this treatment a few months ago, and I preferred the smooth asphalt that used to be on there, now this slurry is a real crappy and uneven application... I wonder if was due to cost or some other technical reason, but I was wondering if anybody has a view on it (I'm sure I just let mine known) > > Message: 3 > Date: Thu, 16 Oct 2008 14:13:40 -0400 > From: "Chris Norloff" > Subject: [dc-cycles] better pavement in Manassas > To: "'DC-Cycles'" > Message-ID: <7BF9D8C7A6894C2D8D08DCC2B2612FA8@XXXXXX> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" > > Has anybody ridden this section of pavement? One biker remained at the scene and talked to the police. Another biker stopped, and took the downed but alive 2nd rider to the hospital. The abandoned bike wasn't stolen, the rider just didnt' want to wait for an ambulance. The police have talked to him and aren't pressing any charges. The remaining few riders I haven't heard anything about, but I hear the police aren't looking to charge them with anything since they weren't involved. It's possible they didn't know about the accident. The story has been told like this, A gold camry cut off off rider #1 , so the rider decided to take the shoulder. On the shoulder the bike went out of control and struck the gaurd rail (and creating a lot of smoke) and the rider went to on coming traffic. His bike continued on to intersect with bike #2. I know there is often debri on the shoulder. People just move the road stuff off to the shoulder, and it's not conducive to motorcycling. I've seen all kinds of shit on the shoulder including tractor trailer tire treads, mattresses etc. I can only presume he probably hit something of the sort and lost it. I've heard some of the deceased fellow club members have tried to or attacked one of the persons riding with him that night, at the local wed night hang out spot. I think that's a shame and ignorant. I've also heard they got on a microphone and was swearing and talking about violence against the people who left. I really have a deep disdain for people who want to initiate violence when it's not prevoked and in defense of someone's safety. _______________________________________________ dc-cycles mailing list dc-cycles@XXXXXX http://dc-cycles.org/mailman/cgi-bin/listinfo/dc-cycles _ _ _ _ .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. The police (Arlington County) said I was not at fault and no tickets were issued. The insurance companies are giving me the impression that it's probably all going to get pinned on me anyway, so I'd probably be better off with a lawyer on my side. Anyone got any recommendations (preferably from personal experience, not "I've heard about")? I was in the Jeep, but a motorcyclist was a witness and hung around to give statements to cops. I would have done the same. I just hope it helps in the long run. --Jonathan "smthng" Kalmes Springfield, VA 2005 Yamaha FJR1300ABS - "Blue Bayou" 2006 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon - "Teflon" 2008 Kawasaki KLR 650 - It's here, but it hasn't earned a name yet. ;) http://smthng.info "Shake well... some settling is natural." _______________________________________________ dc-cycles mailing list dc-cycles@XXXXXX http://dc-cycles.org/mailman/cgi-bin/listinfo/dc-cycles _ _ _ _ .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-.
