I think the issue is that you could easily have a rider 16 year old rider with 10 years of riding experience and 0 years of on street driving experience. A cage is much more protective during ones formative years of on road experience. I'm looking forward to having my son start riding in the next year or two but I'd like to see him have several years of experience on the street in a cage before we look at letting him ride on the street. -Norris On Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 2:02 PM, Danny Motorcycle wrote: > On Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 1:13 PM, SassyDiva wrote: > > > i dont think that 16/17/18 year old should be out riding a motorcycle > > without some sort of adult supervision. i have a 13 yr old and if he > wanted > > to get his mc license at 16 i would let him BUT he would never be allowed > > to > > ride without me, and i would take EXTREME measures to ensure that he > would > > never have the opportunity to possible break that family rule. > > > > I wouldn't let my kid ride on my insurance, nor would i buy him a street > bike. > At a certain age/cc I woudln' buy him anymore. True, and I understand your position and concern for your young person. BUT lets not forget that at the same time they are "protected" by two tons of steel they are far more dangerous to everyone else, not least of all us. (and I do not necessarily think making them feel safe(er) results in them learning to be a more defensive/safer driver.) But it's your child at risk so I understand it’s just $.02 worth. -- John W. --===============0865259928== _______________________________________________ dc-cycles mailing list dc-cycles@XXXXXX http://dc-cycles.org/mailman/cgi-bin/listinfo/dc-cycles --===============0865259928==-- _ _ _ _ .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. "ehhh, why worry? the air bag'll work." motorcyclists are acutely aware of the dangers they face, and as such, are aggressively pursue their own safety. (squids and harley's aren't motorcyclists, so they don't count ;-)_) a friend proposed the following: instead of an airbag, have a 12" steel spike in the center of the steering wheel. you're -not- going to follow too closely, and you're -definitely- going to wear your seatbelt. _______________________________________________ dc-cycles mailing list dc-cycles@XXXXXX http://dc-cycles.org/mailman/cgi-bin/listinfo/dc-cycles _ _ _ _ .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-.
