[Dave] Problem number 1. ;-) ... So, what I think happened is I saw myself closing fast on slowing traffic in front on me (I was going about 60), had a panicked reaction and grabbed the front brake. I remember thinking I needed to brake hard, but really no harder than I've braked before a zillion times. But obviously I overcooked it, locking the front wheel and immediately losing control. In a nanosecond, everything went screwy. [Dave] That's kind of the way it works. Don't beat yourself up mentally about it or you'll psyche yourself out. A little critique of yourself is fine, but don't get carried away. Get well soon. .... I guess since I was walking around and not visibly bleeding buckets. The Vanson leathers, Held gloves, Aerostich combat lite boots and Shoei X11 did their jobs. Nothing wore through, so no road rash. My left knee hurt a little from the fall. [Dave] Paul, I don't know where you're from, but I'm from Accokeek and 'round those parts we call symptoms like this a CLUE. I rode home from my 30mph lowside in March, then had to be driven to the hospital ER in -extreme- pain. I got to the towing/impound lot and I paid the fees to get the bike released. $200. Ouch. I do have a emergency breakdown/towing policy, so I got them on the phone and within an hour, I was at the local Honda dealer. A formality I'm sure--the bike's a total loss--but at least all my stuff was in a safe location, Metro Honda in Metuchen. [Dave] Stranded in Jersey is kind of like one of life's rituals of defeat that all of us have to endure. For me it was the Blizzard of '93. Time to look for another bike, I guess. I definitely want to keep riding. [Dave] That's the spirit. I didn't even have crutches, and had to bogart a cane to walk but I was ok enough to strip the body work to assess the damage & order parts. ;-) Get well soon. I vastly prefer reading about the crashes where the rider clearly made an error and I can think to myself, "Well, I'd never make that mistake." But when a skilled experienced rider crashes in circumstances I can easily see myself in? Have a look at em when you next take a look at the bike. Chit happens.. miles under the belt or years in the saddle unfortunately doesn't make us immune to chit happening. oh how i wish it did lol. Let's just all hope that when our day comes, we can each get up intact. headache is worth persuing. I knew a person who died a week later after coming home from the hospital from a head injury. I think we are each too much of an influence on too many others to be selfish and try to shrug it off. We probably owe it to them to get it checked out. Maybe everythign happens for a reason... congratulations on the good crash that you can walk away from. Apparently that bike had to be pried away from your hands in order for you to upgrade, and so it is written? Glad your'e ok, better safe and sorry, get the old noggin checked out, sure it'll be annoying but the peace of mind for you and the loved ones will be worth it. -Danny _______________________________________________ dc-cycles mailing list dc-cycles@XXXXXX http://dc-cycles.org/mailman/cgi-bin/listinfo/dc-cycles _ _ _ _ .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-.
