Sunny..not humid..perfect. I have to say that the massive police presence on the roads has lessened by enthusiasm for street riding. I have been pulled over for a 'safety inspection' when I was doing nothing wrong, ticket on my birthday for a u-turn, been followed. Yes these events have taken something away. Yesterday was perfect. I rode to Dr. Granville Moore's NE DC and then cruised the GW parkway as the sun disappeared. I don't know if you are familiar with the circle just after the Memorial bridge on the Virginia side...I was watching a full leathered rider on a GSX-R come screaming in from the DC side and then drag knee for five laps of the traffic circle before departing for parts unknown. The weather conspired and yesterday was as close to ideal as possible. _______________________________________________ dc-cycles mailing list dc-cycles@XXXXXX http://dc-cycles.org/mailman/cgi-bin/listinfo/dc-cycles _ _ _ _ .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. Hey all, I just got back in from Colorado and Yellowstone Saturday night. It was probably the best motorcycle trip I've had. Awesome road, people, weather, food, accomodations, scenery, etc. 5000 miles in 10 days on the FJR. The bike handled it perfectly and I didn't do too bad. ;) It was a bit hot at times and I should have taken my "air" boots instead of my Vertigos. It was some of the best riding I've had and it was great to see some parts of the country that I've never gotten to before. If anyone wants details, I'm posting them up to my web site, but it'll probably be a few days before I get it all hammered out. http://smthng.info BTW... The Mississippi River is the unofficial "jerk line" of the US. As soon as we crossed it heading back East, it was the usual tricks we're used to... people cutting us off, driving slow in fast lanes, trying to squeeze between us, changing lanes without even pretending to look, etc. It was the end of a nice ride and back to the chore of surviving. --Jonathan "smthng" Kalmes Springfield, VA 2005 Yamaha FJR1300ABS - "Blue Bayou" 2006 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon - "Teflon" 2008 Kawasaki KLR 650 - It's here, but it hasn't earned a name yet. ;) http://smthng.info "If I'd known it was harmless, I would have killed it myself." _______________________________________________ dc-cycles mailing list dc-cycles@XXXXXX http://dc-cycles.org/mailman/cgi-bin/listinfo/dc-cycles _ _ _ _ .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. .-.-.=\-. The Bun Burner Gold didn't happen. We had to back down to a Bun Burner, which wasn't a problem. We had some technical issues as soon as Jim gassed up (his helmet speakers fell out) which knocked some time off. Then we hit major construction and a couple of accidents in St. Louis. That completely killed our schedule. It was possible to finish the BBG in time, but we were both shot and decided it wasn't really safe to keep going. We stopped that night in Abilene, KS and finished off the Bun Burner the next morning right before hitting the Colorado state line. We'll probably tackle a BBG again sometime in the not-too-distant future. Thanks for witnessing though. ;) --Jonathan "smthng" Kalmes Springfield, VA 2005 Yamaha FJR1300ABS - "Blue Bayou" 2006 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon - "Teflon" 2008 Kawasaki KLR 650 - It's here, but it hasn't earned a name yet. ;) http://smthng.info "If I'd known it was harmless, I would have killed it myself." Another "bonus" for living in the Commonwealth. Even with the faux car tax "repeal" there's gold in them thar stickers. When I lived in Charlottesville, the local government wanted the University to turn over the automobile records for students who had cars and lived on-Grounds (that's "campus" to you non-UVa heathens.) Anyway the University told the City and County to go pound sand, or perhaps slightly more polite words meaning the same thing.
